We of course are an arena club so I appreciate you making mention of our plight. To expand on what you mentioned, our sheets have to be 25 feet short because the hockey players didn't want the houses "interfering" with the face off circles. They said it would be confusing. And by the way, two of the Texas clubs are making pushes for dedicated ice. The Austin club has purchased land and even have up a sign showing the plans: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Austin-Curling-Center/117400628339713

The Dallas club is also working towards dedicated ice starting this year. They are working with the mayor of Framer's Branch, a suburb, to make it happen.maelzohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02696928368633510379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-237334178441267989.post-31234946487142254722011-04-19T20:04:27.417-04:002011-04-19T20:04:27.417-04:00Shoot the Anthracite Club an E-mail and see if the...Shoot the Anthracite Club an E-mail and see if they need any subs for Saturday, June 11!

http://anthracitecurling.com/leagues/springsummer-2011/schedule/

Take a look at some of the pics. As a member of the Pittsburgh Curling Club, and it's former President for the past 4 1/2 years, we appreciate that others are taking notice of what we have done. It's clear that we love curling and will do just about anything to get on the ice. We tolerate bad ice conditions and adjust our methods to provide the best curling experience possible. During our Tropicurl Bonspiel, when we have 40 hours to prepare the ice, we get near competition ice. When clubs from Canada are telling us that their ice is as good as theirs, that is the BEST compliment we could ever receive. It also makes us work that much harder to keep that reputation and eventually translate that into a dedicated facility. We are SO thankful to clubs like Rochester and Ardsley who are donating equipment to bring our goal closer to fruition. Without our good friends, we would not be this close.CurlingRacerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09657441461048876013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-237334178441267989.post-73753871951970746372011-04-11T15:28:50.554-04:002011-04-11T15:28:50.554-04:00It's a great way to get curling started in are...It's a great way to get curling started in areas where there just isn't the support to open curling dedicated ice. In the small town my grandparents live there is actually an arena curling club. The hockey players and figure skaters have the ice Tues-Sat and the curlers have it Sun-Mon. They start the season off by pooling everyone's club dues and then as many weeks rental that money will cover is how long there season ends up being. There is a really nice curling club in the next town over & sure some people drive there to play, but the old-timers who have played in Blackstock for years just wouldn't go anywhere else! It's a good group of people. I've played one bonspiel there years ago (family christmas thing) and no the ice wasn't great, but it was still curling!Cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08977213691967251959noreply@blogger.com
